Seminars

The public is invited to subscribe to courses designed to foster appreciation for and knowledge of the works of art in the Collection.

Looking at Pictures in The Frick Collection

This seminar invites participants to examine four great masterpieces in the Collection, deepening appreciation and understanding through close study and quiet conversation in the museum galleries. Each week participants explore in depth a single work of art in The Frick Collection with Rika Burnham, Head of Education.

The seminar will be offered in February (dates to be announced).

The Sculpture of Riccio

Andrea Riccio: Renaissance Master of Bronze is the first exhibition to present the dramatically beautiful work of Riccio, one of the greatest and least-known sculptors of the early sixteenth century. Over the course of four Thursdays, Curator Denise Allen explores issues of connoisseurship in the galleries and in the conservation studio, and discusses the technical achievements, unusual symbolism, and moving depiction of human form in bronze and terracotta, as seen in masterworks by Riccio in the special exhibition galleries of The Frick Collection.

Four Thursdays: October 16, 23, 30, November 6 5:30–7 p.m. $400
Sold Out

Inside and Out: A Close Look at Furniture in The Frick Collection

Determined to furnish his new home with an appropriate degree of refinement, Henry Clay Frick spent the last years of his life assembling an impressive collection of furniture. Working closely with the influential art dealer Joseph Duveen, he purchased Italian and French furniture from the 16th to 18th centuries. Conservator Joseph Godla and Mellon Fellow Charlotte Vignon introduce this extraordinary collection. They will discuss the historical importance of the collection and the connoisseurship that shaped it. In addition, the close examination of these important objects, both inside and out, will reveal the technical achievement demonstrated in their fabrication.

Four Wednesdays: October 29, November 5, 12, 19 2:00–3:30 p.m. $400
Sold Out
