A Refurbished Backdrop for the Heart of The Frick Collection
Since the Frick’s beginnings, the sumptuous green velvet of the West Gallery has provided a perfect backdrop for the paintings and objects on display in the grand room. The fabric—recently rewoven by Prelle, the same French manufactory that made the original in 1914—is being reinstalled as part of our ongoing renovation project. Ian Wardropper, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director, and Olivier Lhermite, founder of Couture for Homes, explain the labor-intensive process. When the Frick’s historic buildings reopen, visitors will be able to enjoy one of the museum’s most memorable spaces close to how it looked more than a hundred years ago.
