Vecchietta’s “Resurrection”

Was Vecchietta the original Renaissance man? Giulio Dalvit, Associate Curator at The Frick Collection and organizer of the special exhibition Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500, explores the only signed work outside of Italy by the fifteenth-century Sienese painter, sculptor, architect, and goldsmith Vecchietta. His extraordinary signature on The Resurrection, one of the centerpieces of the exhibition, tells us about his ambition as an artist across media, paving the way for our understanding of artistic freedom today.
