The Living Hall — Historical Note
Because of its central location and the importance of the works exhibited in it, the Living Hall is the heart of The Frick Collection — its scale more private and intimate than that of the grand West Gallery. Richly paneled in oak, this room has three large windows to the east and west which provide views into the Garden Court on one side and across the lawn to Fifth Avenue and Central Park on the other. Exhibited here are Bellini’s celebrated St. Francis in the Desert and five major sixteenth-century paintings by El Greco, Holbein, and Titian, along with the ensemble of Boulle furniture, the Renaissance bronzes, the porcelain, and the Persian carpet — a rich and characteristic sampling from the Collection.
