Opened to the public in 1935, The Frick Collection is a world-renowned art museum consisting of more than 1,500 works of art from the ninth to the nineteenth centuries displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick. It is considered one of the world's most perfect museums and the residence is one of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions. The Frick welcomes nearly 300,000 visitors a year to its tranquil mansion on the Upper East Side, encouraging visitors to closely observe, reflect, and engage with its esteemed collection.

The Frick Art Reference Library, founded by Mr. Frick’s daughter, Helen Clay Frick, in 1935, is an internationally recognized research library that serves as one of the world's most complete resources for the study of Western art. Our entire staff ensures that the resources of The Frick Collection are made accessible and inviting to “all persons whomsoever,” in accordance with the wishes of the museum’s founder.

The Frick has moved into its temporary home in the former Whitney Museum Breuer building at 75th Street and Madison Avenue, Frick Madison, while renovations are undertaken to the newer parts of the building at 1 East 70th Street to which we expect to return in 2023. We opened to the public at Frick Madison in early spring and have experienced a surge in membership. We are searching for an enthusiastic partner to support our team and our ever expanding and diverse group of members. We will be providing training on best practices for protecting oneself and the public during a pandemic while always providing the highest quality customer service.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Individual Giving, the Membership Assistant provides overall support for the Individual Giving team. Duties include producing and sending tax acknowledgements, membership cards, gift membership packets, and all renewal notices (mail and email). Additionally, the Assistant coordinates bulk mailings throughout the year. The Assistant provides the highest level of customer service over phone, email, and in person. The Assistant provides logistical organization and administrative support for all member events (virtual or in-person) including creating work orders and invitation lists, producing email and mail invitations, coordinating mailings, paying invoices, taking RSVPs, setting up Zoom webinars, and guest check-in at events. The Assistant produces weekly/monthly/ annual reports for the team and department, as needed. The Assistant keeps meticulous digital files for acknowledgements, solicitations, invoices, renewal notices, and more as needed. The Assistant also assists in organizing all details for the annual Director’s Trip. Additional duties may include gift processing during particularly busy months, website updates, tracking inventory, and occasional front-desk work at Frick Madison. 

The Frick Collection hosts events on evenings and weekends; the Assistant is often asked to work extended hours to provide support during these events. 


A good understanding of Development and Membership as well as an interest in fine and/or decorative arts. Excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal). Superb attention to detail and an ability to handle multiple projects and requests on an ongoing basis. Computer fluency in Microsoft environment plus Raisers Edge experience, or strong database skills. Minimum 1-2 years professional experience in membership/development or very strong museum internships experience.

Work Hours and Compensation

The Frick’s regular workweek is 35 hours, Mondays-Fridays; hours worked in excess of 35 per work week are paid at time-and-one-half for nonexempt positions. Salary is commensurate to experience, the range for the base salary for this position is $40,000–$50,000 annually.
