Opened to the public in 1935, The Frick Collection is a world-renowned art museum consisting of more than 1,500 works of art from the ninth to the nineteenth centuries displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick. It is considered one of the world's most perfect museums and the residence is one of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions. The Frick welcomes nearly 300,000 visitors a year to its tranquil mansion on the Upper East Side, encouraging visitors to closely observe, reflect, and engage with its esteemed collection.
The Frick Art Reference Library, founded by Mr. Frick’s daughter, Helen Clay Frick, in 1935, is an internationally recognized research library that serves as one of the world's most complete resources for the study of Western art. Our entire staff ensures that the resources of The Frick Collection are made accessible and inviting to “all persons whomsoever,” in accordance with the wishes of the museum’s founder.
The Frick has moved into its temporary home in the former Whitney Museum Breuer building at 75th Street and Madison Avenue, Frick Madison, while renovations are undertaken to the newer parts of the building at 1 East 70th Street. We opened to the public at Frick Madison in early spring and have experienced a surge in membership. We are searching for enthusiastic partners to support our team and our ever expanding and diverse group of members. We will be providing training on best practices for protecting oneself and the public during a pandemic while always providing the highest quality customer service.
This is a varied position that involves all aspects of visitor services: Admissions, Shop, and Host/Ticket Scanner.
The Assistant’s overall role is to ensure that our visitors have an outstanding experience. Assistants are cross-trained in all areas of our operation. Responsibilities include welcoming visitors, providing information and way-finding, scanning timed admission tickets, selling available museum admission tickets, assisting with Member ticketing requests, answering phone calls, and instructing visitors on how to use the Frick Madison mobile app. Shop sales requires a knowledge of our publications and products, handling cash and credit card transactions, restocking and other requirements for a retail setting. The Assistant must work well as a team member, ensuring that the daily frontline services operate in a smooth and efficient manner.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual committed to providing a positive and memorable experience for our diverse visitor population. Experience in retail sales or visitor services is required. Excellent customer service skills, personable and outgoing demeanor, and attention to detail are essential. Successful candidates have excellent communication skills and are able to interact with a demanding public. Experience working in a museum or cultural institution required. Professionalism and reliability a must. Bilingual skills are helpful. Proficiency with point of sale systems and an understanding of software applications essential.
