The Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellowship

Since 2009, the Samuel H. Kress Fellowship in Museum Education at The Frick Collection has provided a unique opportunity for early-career museum professionals to study and practice the art of teaching in an art museum. The first of its kind at any American art museum, the Kress Fellowship recognized the critical role of gallery teachers in museum education and supported the future leaders of the field. In 2011, this fellowship was folded into the Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellowships at Art Museums.

The recipient of the twelve-month Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellowship develops a broad knowledge of the Collection as well as fluency in issues related to museum pedagogy. In addition, the fellow joins the Frick's Education staff and assumes significant teaching responsibilities on behalf of the institution. Candidates for the Kress Interpretive Fellowship must be museum professionals or graduate students who have completed a minimum of one year of graduate work in museum studies, art history, or art education. In recognition of their commitment, the fellow receives an annual stipend. When available, updated fellowship listings and application instructions will be posted on Careers > Fellowships.
