red, white and gold dish with image of a cornucopia bound with ribbon and topped by a classical urn

Keyhole Dish

The image on this dish is adapted from a gilt–bronze mount on the Writing Table by Jean-Henri Riesener (French, 1734–1806). The mount, which depicts an elaborate composition of a cornucopia bound with ribbon and topped by a classical urn, is of exceptionally high quality. It is notable for the crisp execution, the remarkable attention to detail, and the shading created within the piece.

The table was purchased by Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919) in 1914.
