The Frick Collection: Clock Paperweight
The image on this paperweight is the face of the Mantel Clock, ca. 1770, whose movement was created by the celebrated Ferdinand Berthoud. Berthoud became a master clockmaker in 1754 and was appointed clockmaker to the king in 1773. One of the great clockmakers of his time, he wrote extensively on timekeeping and is credited with many horological innovations.
