Boucher at The Frick Collection Notecard Folio
François Boucher painted the series The Four Seasons in 1755 for Madame de Pompadour, Mistress of Louis XV. The paintings were probably designed as overdoors for one of her residences. They depict pleasant pastimes, unlike earlier representations of the seasons, which depicted labors performed at the various times of the year.
Henry Clay Frick (1849 –1919) purchased the series in 1916.
