The frescoed ceilings commissioned by Count Carlo Archinto for his palace in Milan were among the masterpieces of Giambattista Tiepolo’s early career and are the subject of the current special exhibition. This lecture examines the history of the frescoes within the broader context of the Archinto family and their palace.

Xavier F. Salomon: “Murillo’s Self-Portraits”

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, The Frick Collection has reunited for the first time the only two known self-portraits by the artist. This lecture provides an introduction to the special exhibition, focusing on these two rare paintings and their context.

Xavier F. Salomon: “Paolo Veronese and Francesco degli Arbori’s Chapel in Murano”

Between 1566 and 1567, the priest Francesco degli Arbori oversaw the construction of a small private chapel on the island of Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon. To decorate it, he commissioned Paolo Veronese, one of the most sought-after artists in Venice. The two principal works from the building, recently restored, are the focus of the special exhibition and this lecture.
