Acquisitions
The Frick Collection has continued to expand its holdings in the decades following Henry Clay Frick's death in 1919. Since then, nearly half of the Collection's paintings and several important sculptures and decorative art objects have been acquired.

Purchased through the Sidney R. Knafel Fund, 2015 (2015.9.01)Since the mid-nineteenth century, Renaissance Italian bronze statuettes, maiolica wares, Limoges enamels, and French sixteenth-century ceramics belonged to the category of objects that every serious art collector in Europe hoped to own, their value and association with royal and noble provenance bestowing upon their owners an aura of cultivation and taste. The greatest collections were assembled by Sir Richard Wallace, George Salting, Frederic Spitzer, and several members of the Rothschild family, among others. MORE »

Gift of Robert K. JohnsonPortrait of The Hon. Booth Grey by Francis Cotes (1726–1770) joins the permanent collection, the generous gift of Robert K. Johnson, a long-time friend of the museum. The canvas is a fine example of British eighteenth-century portraiture, a genre that was greatly esteemed by Henry Clay Frick and other American industrialists of the Gilded Age. MORE »
