Garden Court

Gardens

Three historic green spaces complement the Frick’s distinguished collection and unique interiors. Visitors are invited to explore one oasis at the heart of the museum, while two viewing gardens may be enjoyed from the street and several interior vantage points. Together, these serene cultivated spaces serve as natural extensions of the visual splendor of our buildings and works of art.

The Frick’s Oasis Reborn

In the final episode of Renovation Stories, go to the heart of the revitalized Frick Collection with Luisa Herrera, Senior Manager for Capital Projects. Luisa dives into the meticulous restoration of the Garden Court fountain, a source of refreshment amid the museum’s galleries. EverGreene Architectural Arts—together with the Frick’s conservation team overseen by former and current Chief Conservators Joseph Godla and Julia Day—repaired the historic fountain and carefully cleaned its stonework and that of the surrounding courtyard, all enhanced by a restored laylight and skylight. Visitors are invited to enjoy the new glow of the Garden Court, a centerpiece of the museum’s tranquil experience.

360° Video of the Garden Court

Take a moment to reflect in the Frick’s Garden Court. This immersive video allows you to enter the leafy sanctuary designed by John Russell Pope for the museum’s opening in 1935. Listen to the burbling fountain or rotate to see Antonio Canova’s Modello for George Washington (1818) in the Oval Room.

Shot during the exhibition Canova’s George Washington, on view from May 23 to September 23, 2018.
