A pontifical set of vestments in seventeen pieces was sent from Venice to Jerusalem, between 1669 and 1675. The Republic of Venice played a major role in the relations between Europe and the Holy Land, for it was from there, as of the Middle Ages, that most religious pilgrims embarked on their journey. The Venetians also provided the Franciscans, in the early modern period, with glassware, pharmaceutical products, books, and writing paper.
