Mass Setting

This group of objects was given to the Custody of the Holy Land by Louis XIII of France and his wife, Anne of Austria, as regent for their underage child, Louis XIV. All are decorated with the arms of France and Navarre and with the fleurs-de-lys of France. At some point, the vestments’ original white background was replaced with a red fabric. The group of objects is set as if during a Mass. No other silver works or liturgical vestments of this importance survive from seventeenth-century France.
