In The Garden

As spring turns into summer, the border of the Fifth Avenue Garden will change from the Gainsborough-inspired cottage garden display to a planting celebrating the exhibition Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette. Flowering plants such as sweet peas, 'Pink Champagne' California poppies, and 'Café au Lait' dahlias will reflect the color palette of the fashion plates in the exhibition, while foliage plants such as angel wings and 'Red Threads' Joseph’s coat will evoke the fashion accessories used at the time. Additionally, a partnership between the horticulture team and the staff of Westmoreland will bring a little bit of the gardens into the kitchen by way of syrups and garnishes made from the flowers and herbs of this summer planting.
